Columbus Stompers bring home dance competition prize

Columbus--The Columbus Stompers dance team brought home the gold after their trip to the 12th annual International Association of Gay and Lesbian Country-Western Dance Clubs convention, held June 30 to July 4 in Dallas, Texas.

The Stompers won first place in the Medley division, which combines couples dancing with line dancing. It is the third time the Stompers have won the competition.

The victory followed an exhibition performance with Flaggots Ohio, featuring cow-print flags to Who Wouldnt Want to Be Me by Keith Urban.

The Stompers performance in the competition included the songs When You Say Nothing at All and Orange Blossom Special.

The 13th annual convention, New York City Hoedown, will be held May 26 to 28, and is hosted by the Big Apple Ranch, Gothams equivalent of the Stompers.

The next major event for the international association will be in San Francisco on October 21 to 23, the Sundance Stompede hosted by the Sundance Assocation for Country-Western Dancing.

The Stompers have donated over $55,000 to community organizations in their 15 years as central Ohios leading LGBT country-western dance organization, and often travel to other cities to perform with sister organizations, like their appearances at the Rainbow Wranglers Round-Ups in Cleveland.
